The Area

Oakbank Farm is set next to a 19th century stone built working farm within the small hamlet of Kirkpatrick, just outside Closeburn off the A76 between Dumfries & Kilmarnock.

We’re spoiled with an abundance of beautiful country walks right on our doorstep, and are situated just 10 miles from the thriving nearby market town of Dumfries. The handsome and impressive Drumlanrig Castle is only 4 miles away and boasts amazing gardens, country walks, unique woodland based mountain biking and the chance to walk through and explore a 17th century castle with all its amazing paintings, tapestries and steeped in history.

Local culture & history

There are dozens of historic sites and castles to visit within an easy drive of Oakbank Farm. Why not take a day trip to Dumlanrig Castle (8 miles) or Dumfries House (32 miles, as seen on BBC Countryfile).

Robert Burns’ home, Ellisland Farm is 5 miles away, with the scenic Loch Ettrick a short 5 minute drive away with a quaint little boathouse and open water.  Finally, a wee bit closer to home we have red squirrels, kites, deer, otters and much more all seen regularly on and around the farm itself.
